World Thrombosis Day campaign appoints international experts to its Steering Committee highlighting commitment to global diversity

CHAPEL HILL, NC, USA, November 29, 2023 — World Thrombosis Day, a global awareness campaign led by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), today appoints eight new international members to its Steering Committee to continue its mission to educate the world about thrombosis, commonly known as a blood clots.

Approaching its eleventh year in 2024, the World Thrombosis Day campaign is guided by international medical experts in the fields of thrombosis, hemostasis, hematology, public health, vascular and general internal medicine. The Steering Committee is led by Chair Lana Castellucci from Canada and Vice Chair Erich De Paula from Brazil.

The campaign welcomes the following new members, who were selected following a competitive application and review process. Their terms will begin as of January 2024:

• Patricia Casais (Argentina)
• Marcello Di Nisio (Italy)
• Cedric Hermans (Belgium)
• Danny Hsu (Australia)
• Ann Marie O’Neill (Ireland)
• Mara Nuñez Toscano (Mexico)
• Aaron Wendelboe (United States)
• Xu Ye (China)

“After a successful 10^th anniversary year, we are excited and proud to welcome this new group of renowned experts to the World Thrombosis Day’s Steering Committee in 2024,” said Castellucci. “It is our priority that we work with diverse representation from around the world to ensure we are bringing awareness to this very important condition and, ultimately, supporting the campaign’s mission to help save lives.”

The incoming Steering Committee members will serve a two-year term from 2024-2026 with the option for renewal. They are joined by the existing Steering Committee members.

Following the ISTH’s formal committee rotation pattern, the following individuals recently completed their terms on the World Thrombosis Day Steering Committee: Gabriela Cesarman-Maus (Mexico), Mert Dumantepe (Turkey), Marc Samama (France), Stefano Barco (Switzerland), Cecilia Guillermo Esposito (Uruguay) and Todd Robertson (United States).
