Cardinal Health partners with World Thrombosis Day campaign for its inaugural “60 for 60 fitness challenge

September 13, 2023

CHAPEL HILL, NC, USA, (September 11, 2023) — World Thrombosis Day, a global awareness campaign led by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), celebrates its 10th anniversary by hosting a social media “60 for 60 Fitness Challenge” inviting the world to move against thrombosis. Participants are encouraged to move every 60 minutes for 60 seconds from October 1, 2023, leading up to World Thrombosis Day on October 13, 2023 and share their movement on social media with the hashtag #WTD60for60.

Supported by Cardinal Health, a leading healthcare solutions company, the fitness challenge aims to elevate awareness to the fact that 60% of blood clot cases occur during or after hospitalization, making it a leading preventable cause of hospital death. Blood clots are a major public health concern worldwide. World Thrombosis Day has launched the challenge to spark conversation online about prevention strategies and ultimately help save lives.

“Cardinal Health is proud to sponsor the “60 for 60 Fitness Challenge” because it is our mission to improve the lives of people every day. Blood clots affect millions worldwide, from various ages, ethnicities and locations,” Rachel Schott, Global Vice President Specialty Products at Cardinal Health. “By leveraging the power of social media, the fitness challenge will encourage people to become proactive about their health, improve overall public education and promote prevention of the often overlooked condition of thrombosis.”

Participants are invited to get up and move at the top of every hour starting on October 1, and participate every day leading up to World Thrombosis Day on October 13. It is recommended that participants set a timer for every 60 minutes, record their participation by writing it down, taking a photo, marking it in a fitness mobile app or tracking on a smart watch and then sharing it on social media with the hashtag #WTD60for60. All fitness levels are welcome to join the challenge and encouraged to participate in all 13 days or as much as possible.

The World Thrombosis Day team will monitor all participation on social media. At the conclusion of the challenge after October 13, three participants will be selected at random to receive a prize pack worth $200 USD. In order to be eligible to win, participants must register on the challenge website and follow World Thrombosis Day on Instagram or Facebook.
