World Thrombosis Day Welcomes Federica Fedele as Steering Committee Patient Representative

January 22, 2021

The World Thrombosis Day (WTD) campaign is pleased to welcome Federica Fedele from Milan, Italy as a patient representative member of its global Steering Committee. In this new role, Fedele will serve a term of two years, providing a patient voice and perspective for the WTD campaign and the strategic planning of the committee. The WTD Steering Committee is comprised of 15 global scientific experts and led by Chair Prof. Beverley Hunt, OBE.

Fedele was awarded the WTD 2020 Ambassador of the Year in October 2020 for her accomplishments in thrombosis advocacy and awareness in her home country of Italy. She is the founder and president of Associazione Vincere la Trombosi (“Winning Thrombosis”), an awareness-focused organization that shares information about thrombosis in collaboration with the WTD campaign.

Fedele’s organization establishes collaborative relationships with personal trainers and sports centers to develop courses aimed at preventing thrombosis. She also works with doctors, specialists and nurses to promote VTE risk assessments in hospitals and medical clinics in Italy.

In 2017, Fedele suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolism caused by May-Thurner Syndrome. After her experience, Fedele became aware of the lack of information and awareness on the subject and she decided to dedicate her time to raise awareness about the condition. She will publish her first autobiographical book entitled: “From Vasco to the Vascular – My Life with May-Thurner” to be published in 2021.

Fedele lives outside of Milan, Italy and works in the technological innovation and construction field. To learn more about Fedele, click here.
